EU officials warn: preliminary investigation into supply of NVIDIA AI chips underway
Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission's executive vice-president and competition commissioner, has warned of "huge bottlenecks" in the supply of NVIDIA's artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Vestager told the press during a trip to Singapore that EU regulators were still considering whether and what action to take, "We have been asking them questions, but this is a preliminary move. So far, it doesn't qualify as a regulatory action." Vestager mentioned that AI chips are facing a supply crunch and that a secondary market may help spur innovation and level the playing field. However, she noted that dominant companies may face certain behavioral restrictions in the future.
