USA: Young voters prefer Harris to tackle economy, outpace Trump in support

Bitget2024/08/11 15:18

Young Americans don't seem to think Harris is responsible for the deterioration of the U.S. economy caused by the Biden administration, according to a new CNBC and Generation Lab poll. After Biden dropped out of the race in July, 69 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 believe the economy is deteriorating under President Biden. But they also believe that the candidate most capable of improving the economy is Harris, the de facto Democratic nominee, rather than the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. 41 percent of respondents believe Harris is the best candidate on the economy, while 40 percent chose Trump, and 19 percent said they would instead choose third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy Jr. (D-Mass.). Democratic support on economic issues is up 7 points relative to the May survey, when just 34 percent of respondents said Biden, then the likely Democratic presidential nominee, was the best candidate to boost the economy, while 40 percent chose Trump and 25 percent chose Kennedy.
